A Port City in Northwestern Italy

Fifteen of Italy's best photographers document the post-industrial wasteland of Porto Marghera, the rundown port outside Venice, in this sublimely beautiful and hauntingly imagined book. A dystopia of abandoned machinery, rusting lots, and overgrown warehouses, Marghera is also an eerie symbol of modernity, and as interpreted through the lenses of these artists, an almost pastoral landscape -- in which nature is constantly rising to the surface, and re-claiming its domain.

New Port Richey, Florida, like many cities between Jacksonville and Tampa, can thank Henry Plant's 1885 railroad for its phenomenal growth.
